BECOME A VINS VOLUNTEER ![]() Volunteer Opportunities Bird Rehabilitation and Animal Care: Assist with all aspects of bird husbandry including: food prep and feeding, enclosure cleaning, basic maintenance and assisting with medical treatment. Must be 18 years old and be able to commit to weekly 4-hour shift. (Training available over the fall/winter season only.) Baby Bird Feeder: Care for baby birds in the Rehabilitation Department during the summer months. Must be at least 10 years old and parent must stay to supervise, 3 ˝ hours per week (8 weeks minimum) commitment, June through August. Apply early to be included in the 2010 season training in the spring! Full application and interview required prior to APRIL 1, 2010! Bird Rescue and Transportation: Rescue and transport injured birds to the Wildlife Services Department at the VINS Nature Center in Quechee, VT. Must be at least 18 years old and have reliable transportation. Raptor Docent: Educate visitors and school groups through raptor programs with live birds. Must be able to commit to weekly 4-hour shifts, be at least 18 years old and participate in VINS' comprehensive training program. (Training available over the fall/winter season only.) ![]() VINS Nature Center Educator: Help educate the public through a variety of programs including nature walks, the interactive mobile “Discovery Depots,” and our children's center, the Fledgling Corner. VINS Nature Store Assistant: Assist with customer care in our Nature Store, including ticketing, membership sales and stocking. You need to be able to commit to weekly 4-hour shifts. Guest Services and Reception: Greet and orient our visitors to the VINS Nature Center which includes benefits, introducing events, programs and suggesting the benefits of becoming a member. Meet and greet our guests during functions on the VINS campus and off-site. Office Support: Help our administrative staff with office duties such as filing, bulk mailings, photo copying, collating, general research, data entry, typing, assembling educational packets and hanging special event posters in surrounding towns. (Teens can help in the office as well!) Gardening: Weed and maintain garden areas, occasional watering and raking may be necessary. ![]() Maintenance/Grounds: Assist in repair, construction and upkeep of the facility. Special Skills: If you have skills in welding, carpentry, automotive repair, computers and would like to volunteer your services, VINS may be able to use your expertise. Collections/Donations: If you would like to volunteer but are not available to commit to a consistent schedule you can still help! Consider making a collection and donating to our Wildlife Services Department from the wish list. Team Building Project Based Work Days: We have options for organizations, teen youth groups and others to come to the VINS Nature Center to complete short term or one day projects. These projects might include trail work, painting and weeding the gardens. Eagle Scout Project options are also available. Call for details!
