The Environmental Citizenship Curriculum Environmental Citizenship offers several units that can be taught individually or collectively. A unit can fit within one intensive week, or can form the basis of a year-long curriculum. Many schools teach 2 or 3 units over a school year. (Example: Trout in the fall, Bobcats in the winter, and Vernal Pools in the spring.) A unit requires 5 or more periods of one to two hours in length, and includes at least one outdoor session. Classes are encouraged to do a citizenship (service-learning) project to apply the learning by supporting the local community and improving environmental health.
