Let VINS and Purple Crayon encourage your child’s vibrant curiosity! Through crafts, games, stories, and outdoor explorations, campers will explore the vast and amazing creatures that occupy the smallest crevices to the largest trees. During Anybody Home, expert naturalists and art educators will guide your child’s discovery as we explore and reflect on the natural world often hidden in plain site- under the bark of a dead tree, below the surface of the soil and in the highest branches of the oaks, pines, and maples that shape the Vermont landscape!

Join VINS and Purple Crayon for a week of exploration and wonder. Circles of Life offers hands-on nature discovery that guides campers through the amazing cycles that occur in our natural word. Learn how caterpillars become butterflies and tadpoles turn to frogs. Be amazed at how the smallest seed becomes the mightiest tree in the forest. And most importantly, come learn how we are all connected through the food we eat, the air we breathe, and in our appreciation of the beauty and art of nature!

Join us for a week of science sleuthing, with a nature twist! Through daily themes and eco-quests, campers will become nature detectives and solve a natural history mystery everyday. By the end of the week campers will earn a certification as a VINS Nature Investigator! So grab your sleuthing cap, and get ready to follow the clues. You never know where they may lead!

Where swimming lessons meet nature exploration, join VINS and the Upper Valley Aquatic Center (UVAC) for a week of exploration and aquatic escapades! Students will learn swimming fundamentals from the experts and discover why humans have been so inspired by a frog’s kick, a turtle’s stroke, and the beats of a butterfly’s wing. While UVAC builds your child’s confidence in the water, VINS will cultivate your child’s curiosity for science and the great outdoors. Through *swimming, play and nature discovery, campers will explore a variety of wetland habitats and learn how plants and animals have adapted to a world where Water Water truly is Everywhere!

*A certified life guard will be present during all swimming activities

Earth Explorers is the quintessential nature camp building off of VINS’ nearly 40 years of experience in environmental education! Parents report that Earth Explorers camp offers “great outdoor adventures, fun and inspiring group leaders” and that “the kids learn real skills and feel proud of their accomplishments.” Earth Explorers is offered at four, convenient locations. Campers at the Saint Gaudens National Historical Site in Cornish, NH will benefit from an artist’s view of nature, meet a sculptor in residence, and learn the history of this unique site. Campers at the New England Tropical Conservatory in Bennington, VT will dive deep into the world of plants, discover connections to the tropics, and explore the beauty and wonder of a 96-acre nature preserve. At VINS Nature Center, in Quechee, VT campers will benefit from VINS’ live animal collection, nature trails and exhibits. Storrs Pond Recreation Area in Hanover, NH offers unique opportunities for on-water exploration including canoeing and *swimming. Regardless of the location you choose, Earth Explorers is guaranteed to foster your child’s imagination, love of learning, and knowledge of the natural world.

Chock full of hands-on projects, games, and outdoor experiences, Art in the Wild will teach children to observe and respond to the patterns, forms, and colors of nature. With faculty members from both AVA and VINS sharing art and environmental expertise, kids will explore woods, meadows and wetlands, while learning about plants and animals in their native habitats. This outdoor session will take place within walking distance of AVA, on the Jackson Conservation Area in Lebanon, recently acquired and conserved by the City and the Upper Valley Land Trust.

Nestled at the base of Mount Tom at Purple Crayon Productions, this camp will nurture your child’s imagination and cultivate their artistic expression. The Mount Tom Building at Purple Crayon Productions offers numerous opportunities to explore woods, meadows and wetlands and to learn about the forms and functions that allow plants and animals to thrive in their native habitats.

Rooted in the spirit of the “localvore” movement, The Nature of Food camp is perfect for anyone whom ever wondered where food comes from. One part botany, one part agriculture, one part cooking, this activity-packed week will expose children to the rich history and practice of cultivating, preparing, and of course **eating food. Two days will be spent at the VINS Nature Center (Quechee, VT) creating a raised-bed vegetable garden and learning the history of agriculture in New England. Two additional days will be spent at Cedar Mountain Farm (Hartland, VT) exploring small scale community-based agriculture. At Cedar Mountain Farm, campers will participate in a variety of activities where they will learn how food is grown, harvested, and brought to market. Students also will learn first hand about dairy farming, cheese making and general animal husbandry. The week will culminate at the Baking Education Center at King Arthur Flour (Norwich, VT) where campers will learn about common bread-making grains and undertake a **baking project using ingredients harvested, in part during their time at Cedar Mountain Farm.

*Important Note: You are responsible for dropping off your campers at three separate destinations over the course of the week. Transportation is NOT provided between locations.

You are invited to a week of adventure camp, VINS style, complete with mountain climbing, canoeing, bird watching, other outdoor adventure. Destination New England will dig deep into the heart of New England and teach campers how to read and interpret the natural and human history of this remarkable landscape. **The average day will consist of hiking, games, teambuilding activities and field trips to area natural and cultural landmarks. At least one day will be spent on water, canoeing, kayaking and *swimming at a local lake or river. If you enjoy learning new things, meeting new people, and exploring the great outdoors, then Destination New England is the perfect camp for you!

*A certified life guard will be present during all swimming activities.

Inspired by the theatrics of Mother Nature herself, Theatre in the Wild will bring out your child’s inner thespian. Perfect for introverts and extroverts alike, this session will allow your child to develop confidence, coordination and self-expression, while gaining knowledge and inspiration from the woods and wetlands of New Hampshire. With the expert assistance of Vermont PuppeTree, campers will discover the joy and wonder of puppet theater as they create their own unique puppets. On the final day of camp, everyone is invited to enjoy an original puppet show wherein campers will show off their creative talents, puppetry skills, and newfound knowledge of the natural world. The professional cast of the PuppeTree will join the children in their performance.
