Many avian patients arrive severely dehydrated and emaciated (starved). Through the use of specimens* we will learn how to assess hydration and nutrition levels, determine accurate volumes of fluid to administer & what types of fluids to use, as well as practice fluid administration by various routes. We will also discuss how to care for emaciated patients, including proper liquid diets to use, practicing tube-feeding, and how to assess progress and move on to solid foods. Workshop includes: lecture with PowerPoint presentation and hands-on lab.
