|  This is your opportunity to pick the brain of a naturalist from the Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS)! Bring all your nature questions (and a warm jacket) on a hike that winds through the forest of the Equinox Preserve. Explore the flora, fauna, history and geology of this unique area and learn about the seasonal changes you encounter on your adventures! Pre-registration is required for these hikes. Saturday, October 11th, 2008 10:00 –11:30 am Saturday, November 1st, 2008 Saturday, December 6th, 2008 Meet in the Lincoln Terrace of the Equinox Resort Come and explore the nocturnal world of the Equinox Preserve with a naturalist from the Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS)! This activity-filled hike is perfect for families with young adventurers and those curious about the nighttime world. Learn about the many ways both human and animal senses adapt to the darkness. Listen for the calls of barred owls, discover what a tapetum is, learn how some moths can detect the echolocation signals from bats, how rhodopsin is beneficial to humans and much more! Saturday November 1st, 2008 7-8:30 pm Registration is limited, please call to pre-register! Summit Hike Work off that extra slice of pumpkin pie! Learn about the history of Mt Equinox! See a variety of plant communities! Enjoy the view! The day after Thanksgiving is well-known as the start of the holiday shopping frenzy. Take the road (trail)-less-traveled this year! The Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) will lead you up the Blue Summit Trail to the top of Mt Equinox where you will enjoy an awesome view of the Green Mountains and the Valley of Vermont, weather permitting. Explore the Equinox Preserve by the wan glow of the full moon! Join a naturalist from the Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) for this nocturnal adventure. We will use our senses to navigate the forest paths on our way to Robin's Lookout, listen for the calls of the resident owls and enjoy the pale landscape.
