Peeps: For children ages 4-6, including those entering kindergarten
The Peeps program is designed to introduce early learners to the wonders of the natural world through a variety of hands-on, play-based activities including crafts, music, storytelling, and role-playing.
CAMP HOURS FOR PEEPS: 9 AM TO 1 PM

    Who lives here?
    Learn about the creatures that live under the bark of dead trees, in cold rivers, brooks and ponds, and in the highest branches of the white pines.
    July 21st – 25th

    Sense-Sational! New for 2008!!!
    What senses do wild animals depend upon for survival? Campers will discover many of the natural world's secrets through activities that engage all their senses.
    July 28th – Aug. 1st

PEEPS CAMP FEE: $200


Fledglings:For children entering grades 1 through 3
Camps for Fledglings help children to make connections and understand overarching concepts in the natural world. Through a variety of adventures, children explore familiar places in new ways.
CAMP HOURS: 9 AM TO 4 PM

    Mountain Time
    Explore and learn about the mountains that stretch through Vermont. We'll walk the woods and discover springs and beautiful vistas while investigating plants and animals that call these mountains home.
    June 30th – July 3rd (4/day camp due to holiday)*

    Animal Superheros
    Across the animal kingdom, creatures use incredible feats of strength, endurance and speed. Explore the amazing adaptations these animals possess to detect prey, attract mates and fend off evil foes.
    July 7th – July 11th

    Earth Explorers
    Search to find what flies, crawls, sings, swims and grows here at camp! Each day will bring a new adventure filled with activities, crafts and games.
    Aug.11th – 15th; NOTE: Located at Hildene

FLEDGLING CAMP FEE: $225; $180 (JULY 4TH WEEK)*


Falcons: For children entering grades 4-6
Falcon camps celebrate the adventurer in every child! Using a rich combination of observation, investigation, and play, campers learn about local places and put into practice blossoming stewardship skills.
CAMP HOURS: 9 AM TO 4 PM

    Wild Child! New for 2008!!!
    Join us for VINS' version of Survivor! Learn to build shelters from natural materials, build fires, and develop other wilderness skills as you work as a team to survive the week! This session includes an optional overnight from Thursday to Friday!
    June 23rd – 27th

    Eco-Adventurers New for 2008!!!
    Do you have what it takes to be an Eco-Adventurer? Take the challenge and learn how to enjoy the natural world while protecting it. Learn skills that will bring you closer to nature than you have ever been before!
    This session includes an optional overnight from Thursday to Friday!
    July 14th – 18th

    Ecosystem Explorers
    Search to find what flies, crawls, sings, swims and grows here at camp! Each day will bring a new adventure filled with activities, crafts and games.
    Aug. 4th – 8th; NOTE: Located at Hildene

    River Time
    Learn about the watery world of the river and its shores. Canoe a stretch of a local waterway, wade along the shore, and peer under rocks to look for signs of animals that call our rivers home.
    Aug. 18th – 22nd

FALCONS CAMP FEE: $275; Additional fee of $55 for the overnight option. Minimum of 6 campers for the overnight program to run.

Hawks:For children entering grades 7-8
Hawks build on the skills and knowledge leading towards ecological stewardship through a variety of lenses, including art, theater, poetry, storytelling, and wilderness survival skills.
CAMP HOURS: Four-Days, Three-Nights; (Wednesday AM – Saturday Noon)

    Battenkill Adventure
    Join the Battenkill Conservancy and the Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) for a wild overnight adventure! This program is suited for kids entering 7th or 8th grade with an interest in environmental science, biology and ecology. Kids will spend four days and three nights enjoying a true wilderness experience. We'll spend a day canoeing the Battenkill, a day exploring the mountain ponds of Stratton, and a day hiking in the Taconics with other activities including night excursions, wildlife tracking, water chemistry analysis and orienteering. It's adventure with a brain!
    July 30th – Aug.2nd (Wednesday AM – Saturday Noon)

HAWKS OVERNIGHT CAMP FEE: $550


Eagles:For teens entering grades 9-12
In our quest to foster a citizenry of ecological stewards, VINS will offer teenagers an opportunity to hone their skills as environmental leaders through our Junior Counselor Program.


    Junior Counselors
    Looking for a meaningful summer experience especially designed for teenagers? Consider applying for a Junior Counselor position. Participants learn important skills that teach responsibility, caring for others and fostering positive attitudes towards the natural world. Applications accepted from February 1, 2008 through April 15, 2008.
    Dates: - All summer beginning the week of June 16th through the week of August 18th.
