VINS Avian Care Wish List

Help feed and care for permanently injured raptors. VINS is not state-funded, and we rely on donations from caring individuals like you. Please consider giving a donation from the list below, or if you prefer to send a cash donation make checks payable to: VINS Dept. of Wildlife Services.

Don The Glove Inc provides vinyl exam gloves to the Wildlife Services at Vermont Institute of Natural Science for the care and feeding of our animals.

YOUR DONATIONS SUPPORT:

  • 50 non-releasable raptors used in educational programs and exhibits. These birds serve as ambassadors for their species

  • Resource center for over 2000 callers with wildlife problems and questions every year

  • Assistance to state biologists in collecting mosquitoes & bird parasites for West Nile Virus monitoring

  • Gathering of information that evaluates the health of the ecosystem by graphing locations where sick/injured/dead birds are found, types of injuries and species found. This information assists in identifying problem areas

  • Maintaining 19 American kestrel nest boxes along Vermont I-89(94 kestrels have hatched in the project's 9 years)

  • Largest corps of citizen volunteers in Vermont trained in avian rescue & transport

  • Professional training for avian rehabilitators, bird keepers/curators and bird managers

  • Training 2-4 student interns annually in avian rehabilitation & avian captive management


VINS holds all required federal and state permits for rehabilitating wild birds and possessing & caring for permanently injured raptors.
