The Vermont Bird Records Committee is composed of expert birders and ornithologists from Vermont as well as the four seasonal New England editors of North American Birds. The primary purpose is to validate records of birds from the state of Vermont and maintain the Vermont state checklist. Bird records typically originate as written
descriptions and/or photographs that are submitted by observers involved with
the discovery of a rare bird, rare nesting species, or out-of-season reports.
The committee actively solicits reports of any species on the review list as well
as any species not currently on the official Vermont state checklist. Each year,
the committee publishes an annual report detailing the decisions on all species
reviewed during that year. Nests contain valuable information! If you visited the same nest more than once, please take the time to also fill out a nest record form. The last meeting of the Committee was on November 4, 2006. The next meeting is scheduled for November 2007 at VINS in Quechee.
